Artist Daniel Devlin (attempts to) subvert art institutions using their own tools.
Can good art be cheap?
The typical art bazaar of art droppings, which is an abruptly encroaching scene of unkempt items displayed as affordable tokens of art, is bargain-brow instead of highbrow. Exploration of these contrasting faces of artistic representation revealed one powerful difference between the two (apart from price): their artistic ‘validation’ varies only in the amount of intellectual and conceptual jargon surrounding each.
Studio 1.1 and Daniel Devlin as Osman joined forces to present an extravaganza bazaar of work priced very reasonably - not just affordable but desirable good art: multiples, editions, one-off's with prices between £5 and £50 or thereabouts (nothing above £100). And their aim to have a sellout show before Xmas drains us of all money and any will to live, is not a hidden agenda....
