APPEAL TO CONTRIBUTE A TRAVEL MEMORY IN WORD, IMAGE AND / OR SOUND TO THE MEMORY COLLECTION OF BURO REIS (BURO TRAVEL): A CO-OPERATION BETWEEN ARTISTS MANJA VAN DER STORM AND AIMEE TERBURG IN KUNSTHUIS SYB IN BEETSTERZWAAG.

Buro Reis investigates ‘mental travelling’ and how this phenomenon can be set off by other travel memories. In what amount will travel memories and associations of others, stimulate your own fantasy or memories? We want to create a collection of other people’s memories. The memories we ask you to send us, can be put into word (a poem / short story / report / impression), image (holiday-picture / -slide / drawing / postcard) or sound (summerhit / soundscape / travel-sound or music to travel with). As the travel agents of Buro Reis, we will in our turn react to the contributions in word, image or sound. A selection of these contributions -edited or non-edited- will become part of the project Buro Reis, by placing them on our website, in the catalogue or presenting them in Kunsthuis SYB. The purpose of these travel-memories is to make it possible to experience a travel in your mind.

During the project, Kunsthuis SYB will function like the memory-centre in the brain. To this aim Buro Reis will stimulate the interaction between thoughts and associations by letting visitors take a seat in one of the two specially designed travel cabins. In these cabins they can commit their own associations and memories to paper in word or image, after experiencing a mental travel. Buro Reis includes this new memory in the presentation. A next visitor, and Buro Reis, can also react to this work. In this way, the interaction between word, image and sound is kept going throughout the project. The presented memory-collection will change continuously, because all contributions will be rearranged and redocumented during the whole project. Just like the memory is an unceasing source of thoughts that come and go.

Before the start of the project, we’d like to gather an ‘initial collection’ of travel-memories, to get our investigation started. We are really looking forward to your memory, please send it to us before october 1. All contributors will keep their copy right and for special occasions the contribution can be recollected after the project.
